WordPress iPhone app for business

20110430-165846.jpg

The latest WordPress iPhone app allows you to geotag your posts from your mobile.  Sharing your location when you post to your WordPress blog is  really simple, all you have to do is tap the Geotag icon on the Write screen, and  WordPress locates you on the map. Wordpress bloggers with self-hosted WordPress installations have been able to geotag their posts with the help of numerous plugins for quiet a while now. This is a useful tool (technique) is ideal for creating tags for specific locations - events, places and is beneficial for local searches listings in search engines.

Having tested the new app I can say it is a simple to use and less twitchy than previous releases. The WordPress app allows you to take control over your WordPress sites (you can update several from one device) moderate comments, create or edit posts and pages, and add images or videos more easily.

There are a lot of free, and exceptional efficient tools out there and some are more powerful at getting your products into search engines than expensive branded software and tools. WordPress delivers a mighty bang when optimising a website. Read more...

Cheques could take two weeks to clear thanks to Britain's back-to-back Easter and Royal Wedding bank holidays, customers are being warned.

A cheque paid in on Wednesday 20 April may not have fully cleared until 4 May, some two weeks later, according to the Payments Council... Read more...

The art of the blog?

peter bright - painting 2005 by This Window
Language and keywords can be used in a similar way to creating works of art, once you understand the basic principals and have extensively researched your subject things become second nature. After all blogs are usually maintained by an individual who creates regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, etc. enhancing their content with other material such as graphics or video so usually the driving force behind the blog comes from the creativity of a single individual. Entries are commonly displayed in some sort of chronological order, which means ideas and information grow and develop over time. To write a successful blog requires the ability to reduce and intuitively create content - this is the way to write a successful blog. Creating text that flows, with apparent ease is like a painter who is confident with their medium - they make it look easy.

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written.

The information below is taken from: Blog. (2011, April 21). In Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Retrieved 08:51, April 23, 2011, from http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Blog&oldid=425155901

Personal blogs
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life, or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. One type of personal blog, referred to as a microblog, is extremely detailed and seeks to capture a moment in time. Some sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family, and are much faster than emailing or writing.

Corporate and organizational blogs
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs. Similar blogs for clubs and societies are called club blogs, group blogs, or by similar names; typical use is to inform members and other interested parties of club and member activities.

By genre
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs (also known as travelogs), house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs (often referred to as a blawgs) or dreamlogs. Two common types of genre blogs are art blogs and music blogs. A blog featuring discussions especially about home and family is not uncommonly called a mom blog. While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog.

By media type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog. Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumblelogs. Blogs that are written on typewriters and then scanned are called typecast or typecast blogs; see typecasting (blogging).

We are based in North Devon and we can recommend going to 11 The Quay in Ilfracombe, North Devon. The restaurant has been re-opened with a new menu, redecorated and has several new priceless artworks on the walls. Great food – great art.

Number 11 The Quay was formally known as The White Hart. For over a hundred years it was the most popular Inn on the harbour, and for many years, it was run by the Barbeary family. The White Hart ceased trading in the 1980′s when the landlord and brewery relocated to ‘The Pier’ pub; which, being all on one level, was far more practical for delivery and the storage of ale. Damien Hirst aquired Number 11 the Quay in 1999, with the idea of restoring it to accommodate an international calibre restaurant.

Twitter Post Veronica Henry - And now to Number Eleven The Quay, my friends’ restaurant in Ilfracombe, which re- opens tonight for the summer.New menu, new chef, new art!

World internet usage statistics show that the internet is still doubling in size in the U.S. and growing from 400 to 1000% a year, worldwide. In fact, the total electric bill to operate those servers and related infrastructure equipment was $2.7 billion in the United States and $7.2 billion worldwide. It is estimated that if energy consumption with web hosting keeps raising at the current rate by 2020 the industry will be more polluting than the airline industry.

Running a business website

You can spend hours and hours staring at a blank screen, surfing the web fooling yourself you are working. If you actually analyze the amount of time you spend doing nothing...

Creating and running a business website is like trying to breed a champion cow. Your website must be fertile, constantly reproducing, creating new pages and new improved information.  Continue reading

#Business website navigation

Crystal Set - who needs the internet? by This Window

How the visitor to your business website navigates around your pages influences their decision on whether to visit a competitor or purchasing your goods or services from your website. If the site is too difficult to navigate the potential customer might never return again. You need to make your navigation links (text or images) as obvious as possible and it is imperative that there is a degree of continuity of colour and form so that the user can easily get what they want intuitively. These simple steps will help you to achieve your goals.

Our team at  North Devon Web can provide a full range of services that will help you to chase sales. We can repair and add new exciting features and functionality to your site. Whether your project will take us minutes or  hours,  we are available to help you each step of the way. ‘Green’ web site – hosting is available from us.

Complicated concepts when explained in a simple way make things easier to understand. Knowledge enables understanding, a schematic plan, a diagram or a map, is a key or a link to this understanding. Search engines seek information, this gives them power.

Information = Power.

Knowledge is derived from experience. New innovations appear for all things Internet – just get noticed and become visible.

Music to optimise by

Clifford T. Ward: 10 February 1944 - 18 December 2001

In 1968, following the demise of The Secrets, Ward decided he needed to get a 'real job', and so spent the following three years at a teacher training college, ultimately finding employment at nearby North Bromsgrove High School, teaching English and drama. One of his pupils was the future wife of Sting, Trudie Styler. The children heard singing on Ward's early albums were from North Bromsgrove High School. In his spare time, he continued songwriting and recorded his first solo album Singer Songwriter.

His first album, Singer Songwriter, was released in 1972 on Dandelion Records (a label formed by the late disc jockey John Peel) just before it went into liquidation. As a result, the album received little media coverage and went largely unnoticed. Signing a new recording contract with Charisma Records, Ward went on to have a hit with the single "Gaye". It sold over a million copies worldwide and reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1973.

In July 1973, following the success of "Gaye", Ward's second album Home Thoughts achieved healthy sales and reached number 40 in the UK Albums Chart. At this point, wanting to concentrate on music full time, he gave up the teaching profession. He made a rare public appearance in August, performing "Gaye" on Top of the Pops. In January 1974 Ward entered the singles chart again at number 37 with "Scullery", a track from his third album Mantle Pieces.

Mortality and music
Clifford T Ward,  was my English teacher (which explains a lot). He was a singer songwriter who had a 'chart' sucess with 'Gaye' - the story was that she was a pupil in my class (she was also a girlfriend of mine). His English lessons were spent writing requests to 'radio one' DJs - Tony Blackburn et al. There is a bit more about how CTW influenced me here. He was a nice bloke (but a crap teacher) and his lyrics were very poetic I think I will listen to him again.

I am slowly getting to grips with the images need for my exhibition in June - it is slow but I am getting there.

The painting illustrated was begun in 2003 as part of an exhibition I did based on allergies - I am allergic to flowers and certain perfumes. This is slightly ironic as I am suffering with hay fever and as a result have managed to get an eye and throat infection - antibiotic tablets for the throat and antibiotic drops for my eye.

Update your business website

The World Wide Web is more dynamic than ever these days, which means it's becoming more and more important - good companies are constantly updating their sites. Fresh content keeps people coming back for more. Facebook fan pages need daily content and interactive websites such as a blog should be updated at least 3 to 4 times a week. While this may sound aggressive, clients will recognize the importance you place on of keeping your site's content fresh — without it, people will stop visiting.

We can build you a website that will cost you pennies. We can update your existing website once (or if you like daily). Contact us outlining your requirements. Why not tell us how much you want to pay and will do our best to beat it. We can arrange to host your site if you wish.

Social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, have become great resources for finding new customers. To get these networks (especially Twitter) to work to your advantage, reciprocal networking is crucial. Your prospective clients search for companies with similar interests and services to their own. Support them by "following" them or "liking" them. The idea is that those people/companies will return the favor — the theory (which is possibly questionable) is to enable traffic to benefit both - helping each company grow. The reality is - everybody is out there for their own gain.

Movies to Optimize by - "La Belle et la Bête."

We have been working our socks off optimising several local business websites.  Crunching keywords and writing new content for the body of their sites.

Time for a break and time to watch director Jean Cocteau's 1946 masterpiece of black and white cinematography, "La Belle et la Bête."

From the website of Peter Bright:

I have begun a series of paintings (screenprints) ready for my exhibition in the ‘Long Gallery’ (West Buckland School, Barnstaple, North Devon). The loose idea for these images are based around the title ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – the ‘beauty‘ will be a large ape. This will coincide with a workshop I am giving on how to create woodcuts. In fact, the total electric bill to operate those servers and related infrastructure equipment was $2.7 billion in the United States and $7.2 billion worldwide. Photograph taken on a trip to Brittany in 2010 to the Cancale Oyster Farm

History has it that Louis XIV had his oysters brought to Versailles from Cancale. Centuries later, the farming of oysters is still a major activity in the port and there are oyster beds covering about 7.3 square kilometers easily seen from the pier at the harbor. These beds harvest about 25,000 tons of oysters each year.

  • Are you wasting your time managing your website?
  • Are you fed up with your hosting company charging you a fortune for a website that doesn't even cover its costs?
  • Are you bored with the tons of bullshit dumped on you from a great height about ‘Search Engine Optimisation'?
  • Do you want to keep it simple?
  • Do you want to get on with your life in the real world? Here is the deal.
  • We can update your website from £1.00 a page.
  • We can host your site with a webpage from £30.00 per year. (This does not include buying the domain – but we can organise this for you.)
  • Our services include free optimisation and submission to search engines including Google for our hosted clients.
  • We can build you a Google friendly sitemap and submit it to them for £2.50.
  • We can even make it ‘fancy' if you like.
While it's generally acknowledged that there are many benefits to using Internet technology to enhance business processes, many smaller organisations are put off the whole idea as it's perceived as too difficult or too expensive to set up and maintain. Whilst it's certainly true that it isn't something to be rushed into, with a little help, it really isn't that difficult.
