Guy the Gorilla (May 30, 1946 – 1978) was a Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) which was London Zoo‘s famous resident, something of a celebrity in the 1960s–70s and was often profiled on kids TV shows and natural history productions. Guy the Gorilla was one of London Zoo’s best-loved animals.

He arrived at the zoo on 5 November 1947, Guy Fawkes Night, hence his name. He was a tiny baby, weighing just 23 lb (10 kg) and holding a small tin hot-water bottle.

My heroes have grown old with me or they have died – maybe their death has been a way to freeze time, stop the aging process – not only for them but for me also?

‘Peter’s exhibition was inspired by iconic images he used when he was at art school in the 70s on the theme of Beauty and the Beast – inc Sid and Nancy and Guy the Gorilla! – and I think the results are really bold and impactful.’

I have always been a hoarder, newspaper clippings, postcards etc. It is only now that I have decided to recycle them.

Guy was the replacement for the zoo’s previous gorilla, Meng, who died in 1941. Guy was captured in the French Cameroons on behalf of Paris Zoo and was traded for a tiger from Calcutta Zoo. The Paris Zoo Director sent instructions to their game department in West Africa to find a suitable female to mate with him.London sent a request to a variety of animal dealers and zoos worldwide to find a mate, and in 1969 the zoo was offered Lomie, a five year old female who had been living in nearby Chessington Zoo. She lived in the old Monkey House in London Zoo for a year before being introduced to Guy.

Yahoo is dead long live the Bing

There is something about the Yahoo's Site Explorer that makes me feel comfortable, like a pair of well worn slippers. It is with great sadness that I read this great optimization tool is to be given the bullet. If you compare Bing's equivalent set of tools - quite frankly there are massive gaps. Yahoo is dead long live the Bing.

When will Site Explorer shutdown?

We are working with Microsoft to transition organic results in all markets to the Microsoft Search platform. Site Explorer will shut down once all markets are transitioned. This is expected later this year. We will keep updating you with progress of the transition at our Search Blog.

Should I start using Bing Webmaster Center?

Yes, webmasters should start using Bing Webmaster Center.

Does that mean that I should stop using Site Explorer?

No. In a large part of the world, we have not yet transitioned to Microsoft search platform. Hence, it is important that Yahoo! continues to receive your site/sitemap submissions so that search results from Yahoo! are fresh and relevant for markets that have not switched over. In order to continue to receive relevant organic traffic from Yahoo! search results, we encourage you to continue using Site Explorer as you have in the past until we fully switch over to Microsoft search platform for organic results.

This text is subject to prescriptive/predictive rules of a system aesthetic. This text has been written on five computers, three of which are on a network and two of which are stand-alone systems. Four computers are running different versions of a Windows operating systems, (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP) and one is using Linux. The text is written in Microsoft Word, three are using version 2000 and one is version 97. Three versions are operating with an English dictionary and one (v.2000) is using an American/English dictionary. The Linux machine is using OpenOffice.org. This text has been written in several locations including, Bromsgrove, Wolverhampton and Woolacombe. This text has been subject to 100’s of system protocols, however the structure of the text is predictable; each computer has its own subtle nuances and offers syntax and grammatical recommendations. I am not completely responsible for this text. My main contribution is editing and using the cut and paste facility. If I had attempted to write this in its finished running order, it would have taken me longer to write…my spelling is appalling and my grasp of grammar is minimal…the written word is not my preferred method of expression. This text would not exist without the existence a system. The aesthetics of the system is responsible for the proliferation of the written word; this is a double-edged sword.

Notes on Painting:

Rediscovering the printing process after nearly 40 years has been an interesting process – disappointingly modern inks are not as rich in colour (earthy colours are very plastic like) and modern waterbased inks don’t become part of the surface, they sit on it, which is incredibly frustrating – the reason I took up printing in the first place was because of the absorbed flatness of the pigments.

Video - promote business?

What is the best way to promote your business? There is a lot written about the advantages of using promotional videos to sell goods and services but... Who is better to use, flickr.com or YouTube.com? I don't actually know the answer so please contact me with your opinion.

I know YouTube gets more traffic but is it a better service than flickr?

My heroes have grown old with me or they have died - maybe their death has been a way to freeze time, stop the aging process - not only for them but for me also?.

'Peter's exhibition was inspired by iconic images he used when he was at art school in the 70s on the theme of Beauty and the Beast - inc Sid and Nancy and Guy the Gorilla! - and I think the results are really bold and impactful.'

I have always been a hoarder, newspaper clippings, postcards etc. It is only now that I have decided to recycle them.
