What Is Search Engine Optimization?

In simple terms, Search Engine Optimization, often referred to as SEO,  is the process of increasing the amount of traffic (visitors) to a web site from search engines via intuitive or natural search word matches. These 'matches' are referred to as 'keywords'. Over the past few decades, the use of increasingly explicit sexual imagery in consumer-oriented print, TV and Internet advertising has become almost commonplace. This is not a new phenomenon, the female form has been used to sell products and services ever since man invented 'the market place'. Sexuality is considered one of the most powerful tools of marketing and particularly advertising.

Is this a good idea and a good way to promote your business?

Sex has been utilized in advertising since its beginning. The earliest forms are wood carvings and illustrations of attractive women (often unclothed from the waist up) adorned posters, signs, and ads for saloons, tonics, and tobacco. In several notable cases, sex in advertising has been claimed as the reason for increased consumer interest and sales. The earliest known use of sex in advertising is by the Pearl Tobacco brand in 1871, which featured a naked maiden on the package cover. In 1885, W. Duke & Sons inserted trading cards into cigarette packs that featured sexually provocative starlets. Duke grew to become the leading cigarette brand by 1890 (Porter, 1971). Woodbury's Facial Soap, a woman's beauty bar, was almost discontinued in 1910. The soap's sales decline was reversed, however, with ads containing images of romantic couples and promises of love and intimacy for those using the brand (Account Histories, 1926). Jovan Musk Oil, introduced in 1971, was promoted with sexual entendre and descriptions of the fragrance's sexual attraction properties. Stourbridge  has given its name to  glass production.

Glass has been manufactured around the town  since the early 1600s – most of the glass industry was actually located in surrounding areas of Wordsley, Amblecote and Oldswinford. The area was rich in natural resources such as, coal and fireclay, which was used for lining furnaces and this made Stourbridge  the perfect location for the glass industry. Glass making peaked in the 19th century, encouraged by the famous glass-making family, the Jeavons.

The 1861 census identified that the vast majority of those involved in the glass trade came from Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. 9% came from other parts of England and 0.2% had come from abroad.

The houses inhabited by glass workers were of a much better quality in comparison to the slums in which the nail makers of Lye, Wollescote and Bromsgrove lived.

Derby and Derbyshire were centres of Britain's Industrial Revolution. In 1717, Derby was the site of the first water powered silk mill in Britain, built by John Lombe and George Sorocold, after Lombe had reputedly stolen the secrets of silk-throwing from Piedmont in what is now Italy (he is alleged to have been poisoned by Piedmontese as revenge in 1722).

In 1759, Jedediah Strutt patented and built a machine called the Derby Rib Attachment that revolutionised the manufacture of hose. This attachment was used on the Rev. Lee's Framework Knitting Machine; it was placed in front of – and worked in unison with – Lee's Frame, to produce ribbed hose (stockings). The partners were Jedediah Strutt, William Woollatt (who had been joined in 1758 by John Bloodworth and Thomas Stafford, all leading hosiers in Derby). The patent was obtained in January 1759. After three years, Bloodworth and Stafford were paid off, and Samuel Need – a hosier of Nottingham – joined the partnership. The firm was known as Need, Strutt and Woollatt. The patent expired in 1773, though the partnership continued until 1781 when Need died.
